Houstrup Strand - Red Hiking Route

The trail is right in the middle of the Nymindegab plantation. The route is very hilly, stretching over the dunes and the surrounding forest. The area is ancient seabed, where sand deposition has shaped the dunes over time.
There is a chance to encounter the forest's king, the "red deer", on the hiking trail. They are very shy animals, but early risers have a better chance of catching a glimpse of them.
Blåbjerg plantation started planting in 1878, Nymindegab began in the mid-1890s, following the law on sand drift mitigation. Blåbjerg-Nymindegab plantation covers about 3500ha, with half of the area covered by trees. The main tree species are Scots pine, mountain pine, Corsican pine, and French mountain pine.
An enclosure has been created where horses graze, with the purpose of keeping the vegetation at an appropriate level.
