The Markman’s Path

Take a trip along the Æ Markmandsssti through the Marsk west of Skærbæk, where you walk parallel to a drained arm of Brede Å, which flows out at Ballum Sluse. Along the route, you pass by the old settlement Misthusum, which the Frisian builders constructed on so-called "værfter" back in the 12th century. A værft is an artificial elevation of the landscape on which houses and farms were built, and they can still be seen in the landscape from the path.

Here you also pass the small Markmandshus, which was used as a summer residence for the markmen when they tended to the farmers' grazing animals. After about 1 km, the path turns away from the coast, crosses the stream Røgelstrømmen, and ends at Randerupvejen by Randerup church. The trip is not a round trip, but you can return via the Brede Å west path to Bredebro or walk to Skærbæk from the endpoint in Mjolden via Den Svorne Vej.
