Frydensbjergruten (3 km round trip)

The Frydensbjergruten takes you through the beautifully hilly Vesterskoven, along Mariager Fjord and up to the viewpoint Sukkertoppen. The Frydensbjergruten is marked with blue triangles.

Starting point: There is free parking without time limits in the parking lot behind the red barn in front of Frydensbjergvej 1, 9550 Mariager. The nearest public transport connection is the bus stop Digtervænget, Gl.Hobrovej.

Experiences: A trip down the old veteran railway brings you right up to the water before you go back up into Vesterskoven and under the beautiful, large beech trees, where you may be lucky to hear the green woodpecker or the larger spotted woodpecker drumming on the tree trunks. The Frydensbjergruten is named after the Bronze Age mound, where you can experience a plethora of flowers during the summer.

Marking: The Frydensbjergruten is marked with blue triangles both clockwise and counterclockwise. During the summer months, the veteran train runs between Mariager and Handest, so be aware when crossing the track.

Note: The Frydensbjergruten goes through hilly terrain. Dogs are welcome - please be considerate and keep your dog on a leash. The route goes through private forest, where you may walk from 6:00 AM to sunset.
