Bornlundvej

"Bornlundvej" is a route of about 4 km marked with yellow pictograms.

"Bornlundvej" is an old road connection that was used up until the early Middle Ages when traveling across Jutland. Back then, the Gudenå River was crossed at Faldgårde, which is the name for a crossing point over the Gudenå River near Holmens Camping.

At Faldgårde, there was a bridge structure during the Viking Age, of which there are still remnants at the bottom of the Gudenå River. It is dated to the reign of Harald Bluetooth in the last half of the 10th century.

From Faldgårde, one could travel via "Bornlundvej" to Gl. Rye, where a mighty pilgrimage church, St. Sørens Church, was built in the Middle Ages. It was in St. Sørens Church that the Reformation began in 1534 with the election of Duke Kristian as king.

It was likely monks from Øm Kloster who built the watermill Siimgårdsmølle at Siimtoften a little north of Faldgårde in the early Middle Ages.

Traffic over the Gudenå River was redirected to cross the river at Siimgårdsmølle, which after the Reformation was replaced by Rye Mølle on the opposite side of the Gudenå River.

With the "Aarhus-Silkeborg hiking route," it is possible to connect Bornlundvej back to Gl. Rye to the south - and to Ry to the north. The Aarhus-Silkeborg hiking route is marked with red pictograms.
