Sejerø

Sejerø was formed during the Ice Age, in two glacier advances, which has created two rows of "mountains" that for the first thousand years were islets in open water. Since the Ice Age, the land has risen and turned the many islets into a continuous island. The cliffs of the islets can now be seen many places a good way inland on the island.

The tour starts right at the exit from the parking lot by the ferry dock and bathing jetty. The path follows the beach for a couple of hundred meters towards Tyvsbjerg, where the asphalt road is followed to the right towards the southeast.

After about 2 km, you pass Øernes Højskole, which is located in one of the former three village schools. The shelters can be booked.

Soon the road goes a little inland and on the right side is a beach meadow of about 20 hectares. The area has never been plowed, and thousands of years of beach ridges are evident in the terrain, which is grazed by sheep and Icelandic horses.

Soon you arrive at Mastrup, which originally consisted of four farms; now there is also a large holiday home area.

Go left on Skansevej and right on Ryevej towards the northeastern coast. When you reach the clearing, notice the memorial stone from Queen Margrethe's visit in 1983.

Continue towards the beach and follow the field road up the hill. Do not walk on the beach – so you won't disturb the terns – but instead, you'll get the finest view from the island's highest point, Kongshøj. If there is a good wind from the north or southwest, you can see the surf on the 3.5 km long reef.

Soon you will be on the other side of the island and can walk down to the beginning of the reef, the stone grave, and the buoys that mark where the island's electricity and fiber connection runs.

Now follow the field road along the coast with the Ice Age cliff on the right side back to Mastrup.

Follow Knopurtvej to the right and shortly thereafter Brobjergvej to the left. After about 300 meters, there will be an area on the left of about 1½ hectares, where Kalundborg Municipality and the landowners are trying to restore the heath that previously covered large areas of the island. Continue straight ahead and follow the pine forest to the right with a living hedge to the left towards the beach. Go through the hole in the blackthorn bush down to the beach.

Continue along the beach towards the northwest until you have passed the large field. Here you can walk up to the beach meadow and follow the field road further with Kongstrup up to the left.
