Hindemade lake - trip to the bridge over Tørring Å

The tour goes to the bridge over Tørring Å and back to the parking lot. From the bridge, there is a beautiful view towards Haderslev Dam. On the tour, you walk along Hindemade Lake, where you can experience a rich birdlife.

Hindemade has been a marsh area with streams and Tørning Å flowing through it. In 1934, the drainage was increased with the help of ditches and a pumping station. In addition, Tørning Å was regulated, and Tørning Canal was built on the northern side of the area. The area was later used for agriculture. In the early 1990s, ecological restoration was carried out in Hindemade. The lands were purchased by the state, and the drainage was stopped. Tørning Å regained its natural course, and a new wetland was established. About 45 of Hindemade's 65 ha have been flooded, and 5 islands have been created where the many birds of the area can rest undisturbed by the public. Besides enriching the area with increased wildlife, the wetland also acts as a kind of treatment plant, as it retains some of the nutrients that would otherwise burden Haderslev Dam. There is a sailing ban on the lake, but Tørning Canal has been preserved, and canoes can be paddled to Christiansdal and the canoe site there.
