High Stones - The King's Grave by the Gudenå River

The trail runs through privately owned forest, so it is only open during daylight hours. It goes from Trækstien to Høj Stene.

Moesgaard Museum has reconstructed Høj Stene – one of Northern Europe's largest burial monuments from the Iron Age. Høj Stene is a rediscovered burial monument shaped like a ship – a so-called ship setting. The site is mentioned as early as records from the 17th century, but over time, part of the stones from the burial monument was removed, and the exact location was forgotten.

In recent years, archaeologists from Moesgaard Museum have rediscovered the site where the ship setting once stood.

In the middle of the ship setting, the archaeologists found gold, indicating that the monument was used for a burial ritual for a particularly powerful person – possibly a king or queen – who at that time was active in central Jutland.
