Around Offermosen

The route "Around Offermosen" is marked with red pictograms. The loop is approximately 4.8 km.

The route "Around Offermosen" runs along the edge of Mesing Sønderskov and Fuglsangskoven. The trail crosses the valley twice. At the easternmost crossing of the valley, there is a footbridge so that one can cross through the low-lying meadow areas without getting wet.

In a former lake at the bottom of the valley, significant weapon sacrifices took place repeatedly during the Iron Age - hence the name "Offermosen".

More than 15,000 items have been retrieved from "Offermosen", especially weapons, personal warrior equipment, and parts of horse gear. The equipment comes from many hundreds of slain warriors. Before the sacrifice took place, the victors destroyed the conquered weapons. The lake has since overgrown somewhat and has been transformed into a bog and meadow.

There is parking available at Foerlev Møllevej opposite the former watermill Foerlev Mølle or at Fuglsang West Rest Area by E45.

The loop in the valley is about 4.7 km, but when combined with a trip up through Tingdalen near Foerlev Mølle, the total trip will be about 6.3 km. The trail at Tingdalen is marked with yellow pictograms.

There is access to a toilet and drinking water at Foerlev Mølle and at Fuglsang West Rest Area.

A marked route has been established from Offermosen to Skanderborg Station and Skanderborg Museum. This route is marked with yellow pictograms.
