Tingdalen

"Tingdalen" is a small trip from Foerlev Mill. The route goes along a small stream up through the forest. The route of approximately 0.8 km is marked with yellow pictograms.

Tingdalen is probably named after a meeting place that was located at the top of the valley. Otherwise, the valley is a sharply cut erosion gorge on the edge of the east-west running Illerup Valley.

The stream at the bottom of Tingdalen, together with spring water at the lower end of the valley, contributes to the water supply for the watermill Foerlev Mill.

Foerlev Mill was established after a royal grant in 1762. It was a stamping mill, where water power was used to stamp cloth, which was dyed at the mill.

The mill's tenant and later owner, Matthias Mørch, made a living by producing and selling dyed cloth in Skanderborg. Later, Foerlev Mill was converted into a grain mill.

The beautiful mill building by the mill pond is from 1839, but it is very likely that materials from the first watermill on the site have been used.

There is parking available at Foerlev Møllevej across from Foerlev Mill. The trip from the parking lot up to the upper end of Tingdalen and back again is 1.6 km.

From the parking lot, it is possible to take the trail "Offermosen Rundt," which is a round trip of approximately 5 km in Illerup Valley.
