The villages of Bisholt and Glud are neighboring villages on the south side of Horsens Fjord. Although the village of Bisholt constituted a unified settlement and center in a large landowner association, the town is divided into Vester Bisholt under Skjold Parish and Øster Bisholt under Glud Parish.
Farms in Bisholt and Glud were leased farms under, among others, Boller Manor near Horsens or Jensgård and Palsgaard south of Snaptun. The farms were leased to the farmers, who paid fees to the landowners for cultivating the land. In the 19th century, the leasehold farmers were given the opportunity to buy their leasehold farms, and ownership was introduced.
