Esrum Stream Trail

Esrum Å-stien is a 4.5 km long walking and cycling route from Tegners Museum/Rusland to Søborg Lake. The path offers the opportunity to hike through the Esrum Ådal, which previously has only been reserved for a few. The route also passes by Villingerød Church, farmland belonging to the organic vegetable grower Birkely, and Gilleleje Golf Club, as well as the villages of Ferle and Dragstrup. Along the way, you can take a break by the riverbank, where there is a picnic table. Here, you can enjoy the birds and Esrum Å while delving into the fascinating cultural history of the Esrum Canal. Esrum Å has, among other things, been used for rafting timber from Gribskov to Copenhagen in the 19th century and is today a protected historical monument. Esrum Å is one of the finest waterways in Gribskov, and studies show a high density of sea trout, river crayfish, and brook lamprey. There is a rich birdlife in the area. Cranes, sea eagles, red kites, kestrels, greylag geese, and lapwings can be seen flying over the area. There are also many small birds in the area, including nightingales. The journey goes through low-lying wet meadows, and in rainy periods, there may be a need to close access to the path. On certain days, there may also be closures due to hunting. Have a great trip.
