Bakkendrup Church

Most Danish village churches have a tower facing west. However, the small cozy Bakkendrup Church has its tower facing east, and the church was originally called Bagvenddrup. The church has been beautifully restored. The chancel and the nave retain Romanesque northern windows, and the southern door is still in use. The nave is vaulted from the Gothic period. The church is situated on an open area overlooking Tissø.

Ågaard

Ågaard was established in the 17th century and has undergone renovations and extensions so that it today appears as a three-winged single-story main building. The southern wing in half-timbering is the oldest - from the mid-17th century. The middle wing is a beautiful Rococo building from the mid-18th century. The northern wing is from the early 20th century. The farm buildings were originally thatched and have been rebuilt after they burned down to the ground in the 19th century. Ågaard currently encompasses 596 hectares, of which 20 hectares are forest. There is no public access to Ågaard, but the farm and river landscape can be experienced on foot.

Sugar Canal

The name Sugar Canal comes from the time when Gørlev Sugar Factory used the canal to discharge their wastewater into the Great Belt. Today there is no discharge. The purpose of the canal is to serve as an additional outlet during seasons when there is a lot of water in Lower Halleby River. On both sides of the Sugar Canal, there are paths to the fine bath beach at Jammerland Bugt. Here, heather, crowberry, and bulbous buttercup grow, and a mosaic of mosses, heath and reindeer lichen, and cup lichen can be seen. Here and there are light green touches of the small evergreen fern, common polypody. East of the main road, the path along the Sugar Canal leads down to a lock and continues until it meets Halleby River.

Common Fold

The Common Fold is a remnant of the heath that previously covered the area. In the distance, the Flasken can be seen, which is a lake-like extension of Lower Halleby River at its mouth in Jammerland Bugt. At Flasken, many birds can be seen all year round, and the area has the status of a bird protection area. It is not allowed to enter the Common Fold, but one can walk along the beach to the mouth of Halleby River. At the mouth of Halleby River, it is possible to wade across to Reersø at normal water levels. It is recommended to curve out into the sea around the mouth, as it is shallowest here. The water reaches an adult (about 180 cm) to the groin. Wading is at one's own risk.
