Hitler's Bridge around the route (4.9 km round trip)

The Hitler Bridge is the name of the bridge that until 2019 went over the railway. It got its name because German soldiers patrolled it during the war to prevent sabotage. The route is marked with red triangles and arrows as well as green pictograms.

Starting point: There is parking available at the gas station at Viborg Landevej 22, Sønder Onsild, 9500 Hobro. By public transport, the closest connection is the bus stop in Sønder Onsild (route 64 and 640). The route around the Hitler Bridge starts at Kirkestien right in front of the gas station. You can also start at the railway crossing in Onsild Stationsby.

Experiences: The Hitler Bridge was demolished by Banedanmark in 2019 in connection with the renovation of the railway network, but you can still clearly see in the landscape where the bridge was, and there is an information sign and a resting bench at the site. The Hitler Bridge got its name during the war because German soldiers stood guard on the bridge to prevent sabotage on the railway. However, the resistance fighters were successful anyway. This was proven in the way that when farmer Folmer Laursen, whose forest went all the way down to the railway, needed some logs cut at a sawmill, the saw hit a piece of railway track in one of the logs. Previously, one would go via the field path south of the railway over the bridge and up through the forest; today, a new hiking route has been created on the other side of the railway. The route runs on a footpath along fields and hedges, on a hollow road through a wooded area, and along country roads and bike paths.

Note: Part of the route runs on private land. The landowners have kindly granted permission to establish a footpath at the edge of the fields/through the thicket. Therefore, the path should be used without causing damage to the area. Dogs must be kept on a leash. Littering is not permitted.
