Northeast Trail

This route is a section of the stretch of the North Sea Trail that runs through Hjørring Municipality.

As part of the North Sea Trail, it is part of the North Sea Trail and NAVE Nortrail project and runs along large parts of the North Sea where one will hike through historical trails.

On this part of the route, one will experience the beautiful landscape and protected grassland at Tornby Klitplantage, after which the path continues along the coast and through dune and heath landscapes before meeting Hirtshals Lighthouse and the beautiful hilly terrain with views of the sea, beach, and Hirtshals town. The journey then goes through Lilleheden Klitplantage, Nørre Kjul, and Uggerby Klitplantage before reaching Tannisby and Tversted town, where one will also experience and cross Uggerby Å, Tversted Å, and Flodbæk. Past Tversted, one arrives at Tversted Plantage, the oldest plantation in North Jutland, where one encounters the well-visited Tversted Lakes. East of Tversted Lakes is ØsterKlit, where Denmark's last functioning post mill is located.

Please note that changes have been made regarding the course of the North Sea Trail on this stretch. Therefore, one should be aware of this if using the map in the attached brochure. One route change is from "Tannisbugtvej to Humlevej," where there is no pavement and is classified as medium/moderate difficulty. The other route change is from "Tannisbugtvej to Tversted Å," where there is also no pavement and is rated as medium/moderate difficulty. The change has occurred in connection with the new hiking route "Naturring Tversted" and the new conservation area "Tversted's Green Front." Thus, the North Sea Trail now runs through the nature, including the dune landscape between Tversted town and the coast.
