Solhøj - Ishøj Strand

Solhøj Fælled Solhøj Fælled is the name of the small forest area in the westernmost part of Ishøj Municipality. The area also includes the open spaces between the forest and the village of Reerslev in Høje-Taastrup Municipality. Despite its modest size of about 9 hectares, the forest has great recreational value. The forest consists of groups of both broadleaf and coniferous trees.

Benzonsdal Manor

Today, Benzonsdal is operated as a conventional farm with crop production by the current owner, Chamberlain Vincens Baron Lerche, who is the 5th generation of the Lerche family at the farm. In 2006, the estate, with its surrounding beautiful open manor landscape, was awarded Ishøj Municipality’s architecture prize. In the landscape around the estate, there is a good view from the beautiful old lime tree avenue of a number of large free-standing oak trees in the fields. The old oak trees are remnants of a former boundary that divided the large manor fields for centuries. Immediately before the private driveway to Benzonsdal lies an impressive burial mound from the Bronze Age.

Thorsbro Waterworks

Thorsbro Waterworks, built in 1908, is a testament to the industrial development and the increasing need for water supply in the city. The architect Andreas Fussing has created a series of buildings of high architectural quality here.

Lille Vejleå

Lille Vejleå, also called the Mill Stream of the West Coast, has provided the foundation for operating grain mills in the region since the Middle Ages. The stream was then very water-rich, nourished by springs at Solhøj and underground springs at Torslunde and Torsbro.

Vildtbanestenen

In the 1600s-1700s, the fields in the Tranegilde area were swampy and wet, and therefore less suitable for grain cultivation. King Christian IV enjoyed hunting and bought 4 farms in 1624 for use as a game reserve, meaning a hunting area. Large royal hunts were held in the area, where both children and adults from the local farms participated as helpers. The Vildtbanestenen was erected by King Christian VII in 1775 and marked the boundaries of the hunting area. In connection with the construction of the highway in 1970, the Vildtbanestenen was moved.

Ishøj Zoo

Ishøj Zoo houses about 35 marsh sheep, 20 Welsh goats, 10 landrace goats, and 30 Scottish Highland cattle in winter. However, the many animal births in spring lead to a much larger summer population grazing in the zoo, on the meadows near Strandparken, etc... / read more at friluftsguiden.dk.
