Due to the area's long-standing significance for drinking water, Brokilde has never been cultivated, let alone sprayed. The area has therefore preserved a varied nature with many different plants, including heart grass and key-flowered bell.
To maintain variation in the flora, it is important that light-demanding plants are not overshadowed by grass and shrubs. Therefore, the meadow areas are regularly mowed as part of Copenhagen Energy's (formerly Copenhagen Water Supply's) nature management.
Brokilde is a great place to practice recognizing bird calls, as there is a rich bird concert during many periods.
Immediately north of the spring site lies a two-chambered stone tomb.
