Himmerigskoven (8 km)

A walk of about 8 km marked with green arrows. You can start at the parking lot across from the community center in Grundfør, behind the old school and the church. From there, head northwest along Algade - you'll pass by the village pond in Grundfør. When you exit the town (Rønbækvej to the south), you can sense the old star exchange in the form of a long straight stretch.

At one point, you will arrive at the new Himmerigskov, and the Nature Agency's information board shows a map of the area and tells about the afforestation in the region. A considerable amount of forest has been planted recently to protect the Hinnerup Waterworks’ boreholes. This is done in collaboration between the Nature Agency, Favrskov Municipality, and Hinnerup Waterworks.

Along the forest road to the east, you reach Rønbækvej, and on the other side of the road, 'the old' Himmerigskov begins. The trees here were planted in 1996 as a result of the Parliament's wish to double Denmark’s forest area. After that, you will pass large open grass areas, and Hjuldalvej winds beautifully to the west into Hjuldalen.
