Fuglsang and Skejten

Outstanding walk among oak trees, cows, and rare plants in the natural area Skejten. Start the walk at the Naturlandet information point Fuglsang. There are signs for bike parking from the main road.

Skejten is a natural area with oak trees, rare plants, and an interesting fauna in a damp and wild marsh-like area.

The area is protected and has never been cultivated. The oak trees are up to 300 years old.

The name Skejten comes from the Old Norse word "skejt," which means a place where there are horse fights. Stallions were "agitated," and then fought against each other, with bets placed on the outcome.

There are information signs on site.

The paths are uneven and often wet, and there are primitive bridges over the streams running through the area and out into Guldborgsund. Remember good footwear, preferably rubber boots, etc.

Skejten is grazed by livestock during the summer months. Dogs must always be on a leash in Skejten, both because of the livestock and the other wildlife in the area, not least the many breeding birds.

The area is owned by Det Classenske Fideicommis.
