Place by Kongskilde, Tystrup Lake

Nice, short route from Kongskilde Nature Center to Frederikskilde beach. There is a designated handicapped parking at the nature center.

The route runs along the river and the grazing goats, past an interesting historical monument, through Frederikskilde Forest, and ends with a view over Tystrup Lake. Part of the route is on a boardwalk. At the nature center, there are toilets, picnic tables, and access to water, as well as an exhibition about the nature in the area.

Tystrup Lake, with its 660 hectares, is among the larger lakes in Zealand. It is 23 meters deep at its deepest point, and many springs flow into the lake bed. Therefore, the lake takes a particularly long time to freeze over. Especially in the winter months, there are many birds at the lake. Many ducks winter here.

The trees in Frederikskilde Forest grow all the way down to the water's edge at Tystrup Lake. The forest here is particularly vulnerable and valuable, and therefore is covered by the EU's nature conservation directive Natura 2000. Water from underground springs bubbles up everywhere, and the vegetation mainly consists of alder, which thrives well with wet feet.
