Tinning Mose is the only true high bog in Favrskov. A high bog receives nutrients only from rainwater and the air. The greater humidity in the center of the bog promotes the growth of sphagnum moss, giving the bog a slightly convex surface, hence the name. Therefore, the high bog is initially quite nutrient-poor and fairly acidic, and plants must adapt to the specific and rather unfavorable growth conditions that exist in the high bog.
Access is best from Solkærvejen, from where a path leads into the area. It is possible to walk all the way around the bog via privately owned field and forest roads. Please be careful and considerate of the animal and plant life.
In general, a high bog has few animals and plants. In return, there are some species that are not found many other places. This includes the carnivorous plant sundew, which "catches" small insects thanks to the slimy dew drops secreted from the glandular hairs of the leaves.
