Dronninglund Storskov consists of 4 different routes that cross each other – a red, a yellow, and a blue route, as well as Bestig Bjerges' white route. The Sømose route is the red route. Sømosen is a high bog located among the high hills in Jyske Ås in the southern part of Dronninglund Storskov. Sømosen has an exciting history about past rural life. Sømosen is divided into about 40 peat slabs that belonged to the farms in the area, each having its own parcel for peat cutting. Peat was harvested here until after World War I. The owners rented the right to live here for 2 crowns a year to gypsies and other traveling people from 1860 to around 1900. In the 1880s, there were about 40 families living in Sømosen. These were all market people, artists, entertainers, or musicians who were attracted by the bog's desolate location and settled in primitive huts and earth holes, where they stayed during the winter. In the summer, they traveled around the country and performed. The last residents moved from Sømosen in 1954. In many places, you can see that there have been excavated into the slope, and there are still various garden plants visible.
