The Green Ring

The Green Ring is a ring of forest and natural areas surrounding the city of Næstved. As part of the municipality's Outdoor Strategy, a hiking and cycling route has been established in "The Green Ring." The route, which is also called "The Green Ring," is signposted and goes through new and old forest and natural areas. The route is on gravel and asphalt and is approximately 32 km long, with large parts accessible for handicapped individuals.

From the route, there is a connection to the marked hiking routes "Sjællandsleden," which follow the coasts and the Suså river, and to "Fodsporet" - the discontinued railway between Næstved and Slagelse.

Næstved Municipality, together with the Ministry of the Environment and the Nature Agency, has established seven new forest and natural areas around Næstved City. The new public forest and natural areas are located so that together with the private forests and existing natural areas, they form a green ring of recreational opportunities around the city.

The political vision is that you should have easy access to a forest or natural area near where you live. From the center, it takes only 5-10 minutes by bike to reach the nearest forest and natural area.

In addition to providing better opportunities for outdoor life, the new forests are also expected to contribute to increasing biodiversity and sequestering CO2. Proximity to nature promotes general public health, enhances learning in children and young people, and reduces stress.

Over time, the city will grow beyond "The Green Ring," which will then become a coherent green structure within the city.
