Bakkestien in Frederiksværk

Bakkestien, together with Fjordstien, forms a continuous path in the forest areas just behind the town of Frederiksværk. The trail continues south via Roskilde Fjord and Kregme to Frederikssundsvej at Grævlingehøj. From the center of Frederiksværk, there are several options for shorter or longer hikes.

In the forest behind the town, there are many paths that can serve as starting points for a hike, or you can simply use the paths for a shorter walk in the woods. The area between Sandskårsvej and Bjørnedalsvej is protected, and Halsnæs Municipality created a management plan for the area in 2010.

Previously, a series of powder towers were located on the hillside. The buildings served as depots for the finished powder produced at the Powder Works in Frederiksværk. Today, you can see small plateaus in the terrain where the powder towers used to stand.

The area around Bakkestien consists of both forested areas and open areas with heath vegetation. Rare local characteristic species such as the Pigeon Scabious, Swallowroot, and Tarflower can be found in these areas.
