Hike to Vasetårnet

The path winds through the Alders swamp/forest of Vaserne. The paths in the area were originally created by laying out branches to support the trail. This type of path is called a vase and gives its name to the area's place name - Vaserne. Today, it is a paved path of much better quality than laid-out branches!

The path takes visitors through the area's characteristic alder swamp/forest, which is captivating to visit in all seasons. The alder tree is a wetland species that can withstand having its roots submerged in water. One might as well call it a Danish mangrove tree species.

The relatively soft wood of the trees is highly favored by woodpeckers and other cavity-nesting birds that like to breed in them - and which find their food in the branches and trunks.

The area is known to host a small population of breeding lesser spotted woodpeckers, so look up and keep an eye out for the area's rich birdlife.
