Østergård - Skansehøj Fortress

The Middeladerborgen Østergård dates back to the 15th century. From there, one walks through a small piece of forest and out to the meadow towards Åsted. From Åsted, one continues on the path along the dyke beside Hinnerup Å, from where one crosses the stream and continues over a field and around a small piece of forest down towards the fortification Skansehøj, which is a protected prehistoric site. The fortification is an impressive and well-preserved structure with a prominent central mound featuring double ramparts and a moat surrounding it. On the eastern side of the central fortification, there is an area of about 13,000 m², relatively flat, enclosed by a low rampart and a pointed ditch. From the fortification, one crosses the stream and continues south back to Østergård. The route is marked with yellow arrows.
