Tømmerup - Asnæs

Spangsbro

Spangsbro was established in the 19th century as part of Tømmerup By. Here, among other things, a dairy, school, and co-operative were built, of which only the latter two are still in operation today. In the 20th century, a sports hall was built, and a gravel pit was transformed into the recreational area Loch Ness, with lakes, planting, and viewpoints.

Kåstrup By

The village structure from before the land reform has been preserved in the long ribbon village, and the remaining farms are still arranged in two rows along the village square and main street. Smaller houses are located on the sites of the relocated farms in the middle part of the town.

Nyvangskirken

The modern church building was designed by architect Holger Jensen. It was built from 1967 to 1974 and stands as a monument to the finest church architecture of the time. The hexagonal room functions well both aesthetically and acoustically. The four floor vases were designed and made by ceramicist Lise Jonas, while the pulpit, cross, candlesticks, lamps, and baptismal font were designed by the architect.

Novo Nordisk and Novozymes

Novo Nordisk and Novozymes are some of Kalundborg's largest workplaces and house among other things, the world's largest enzyme factory.

Dokhavnen and NKT Flexibles

Dokhavnen was established when foundations were to be built for the East Bridge pylons and anchor blocks of the Great Belt Bridge. When Dokhavnen's function for this purpose ceased, NKT Flexibles was established there, producing submarine cable and wiring systems for the oil and gas industry, as well as the chemical and water industries. The factory complex is located on an area of 157,000 m2. Cable ships with huge cable reels are often seen in the harbor.

Statoil

Statoil Refinery is Denmark's largest oil refinery. Crude oil and condensate are refined into gasoline, jet fuel, diesel, propane, heating oil, and fuel oil. It is the only refinery in the world where sulfur from the desulfurization plant is converted into liquid fertilizer.

Asnæsværket

Asnæsværket is Denmark's largest power plant. It is coal and orimulsion-fired, and produces district heating for Kalundborg City, process steam for neighboring companies, and electricity for the Zealand high-voltage grid. The electricity production covers about one-third of the electricity needs in Zealand.
