Blue Route, Fruen's Plantation

Under the forest of Fruens Plantage lies Denmark's most powerful ridge. It rises up to 40 meters above the terrain and is about 300 meters wide. When the ice melted 15,000 years ago, a wide crack formed in the ice, where meltwater flowed northwest. The ice mass itself lay to the southeast and was 1-2 km high. When the ice had melted away, stones, gravel, and sand were left behind. This is known as a canal ridge, also called a plan ridge.

An old legend says that the ridge comes from a troll who grew tired of hearing the church bells in Næstved. He therefore filled a sack with sand and headed towards the town. Along the way, he stopped at an inn. A gnome saw his chance to cut a hole in the sack. The sand gradually slid out of the sack and formed the ridge. Just before the troll arrived, the sack was empty.
