Slivsø northern route

The path goes along the northern side of Slivsø, back and forth the same way on a solid and even surface. There are picnic tables in several places along the way and beautiful views of Slivsø from the entire route.

Slivsø near Hoptrup outside Haderslev was drained in 1957-59 so that the area could be used for agricultural land. It was recreated in 2004 in a slightly smaller version of 164 hectares, equivalent to 300 football fields as part of the Water Environment Plan II. It cost 23 million kroner to restore the lake.

When the water was let back into Slivsø, the first birds quickly arrived, and today the lake is a habitat for around 180 bird species, including kingfishers and sea eagles. The fish population has developed well, and today the lake contains many pike, perch, and trout. From the first Sunday after January 15 to November 15, it is permitted with a valid fishing license to fish in the middle part of the lake and about 1 km of the northern shore.
