Ladegård Forest and Nyborg Castle

On the southern side of Ladegård Lake are the remains of Ladegård Forest, which previously constituted the castle's deer park. The remaining old oak trees are all protected.

If you walk from Nyborg Castle through the gateway under the rampart, you have the broad moat, Kamgraven, in front of you. At the opposite bank, water flows in from Ladegård Lake. A channel carries the water further under the gates' floor - into the Castle Lake.

If you go back through the gate and along the path towards the Square, you can see the lake's water flowing under the bridge along the Castle Moat around the library peninsula and then in the opposite direction in the Mill Moat along Castle Street, past the Square and into the Castle Mill. From the Mill Moat, the city's drinking water was previously directed through channels of hollowed tree trunks to basins where citizens could pump it up.
