Marjatta

Marjatta is an institution with many purposes, but is perhaps best known for its school home for children and young people with developmental disabilities. The school operates according to Rudolf Steiner's anthroposophical principles. Marjatta also runs an organic farm with associated farm gate sales.

St. Peter's Chapel

St. Peter's Chapel is the name of the small church by the fjord. It was built by local parishioners who were dissatisfied with the long journey to the churches in Roholte or Kongsted. Outside the church stands a memorial stone for the Danish soldier Anders Lassen, who became the most highly decorated Dane during World War II. Anders Lassen was born at Høvdinggården south of Præstø.

Bækkeskov

The estate Bækkeskov is located in the hills above the fjord and is definitely worth a detour. In the 18th century, a true horror unfolded here when dissatisfied farmers killed the then estate owner during the harvest work. He was known in the area as a tormentor of farmers. Although they got rid of the estate owner, the farmers paid a high price when the sentence was passed: 11 were executed, 4 received life sentences in the hard labor prison, and 5 women were sentenced to a reform house.

The Cloth Oak

The Cloth Oak in Leestrup Forest is a "healing tree." The tree is about 400 years old and may only be a successor to an even older Cloth Oak in Leestrup Forest. Illnesses could be removed by crawling through the opening formed by two trunks and then remembering to leave a piece of clothing behind. Today, one of the trunks has disappeared, but the tree is still said to be healing – Try it yourself.

The Rushes

The rushes at the northern part of Præstø Fjord are drained by the lower course of Orup Stream. The area is secured by a dike over a kilometer long with a pumping station. In the years 1957-60, the then Præstø County, in cooperation with the Hedeselskabet, carried out the land reclamation project "Orup Stream." The idea behind the project was to improve the drainage conditions of the areas and create opportunities for further agricultural use of the area. In recent years, partly due to concerns for bird life, it has been decided to recreate part of the former wetland.

The Fisherman's House

The Fisherman's House is a nature center with an exhibition that tells about the nature and cultural history of the fjord. It is always open, and if the weather turns bad, it offers shelter and a cozy place to eat your packed lunch. The Fisherman's House is located in a garden with tables and benches for outdoor resting.
