A hike in the Abildå lignite mine is a lovely experience in an exciting nature that has developed since the mining stopped in 1962. In the middle of the area, former lignite workers have recreated a small mining site.
Here you get a good impression of the harsh and tough work of extracting lignite, back when most of the work was done by hand, with shovel and wheelbarrow.
How to find Abildå Lignite Mine
The mine is located on Timringvej between the village of Abildå and the viewpoint Trehøje, which is one of West Jutland's most beautiful viewpoints.
From the parking lot by the road, a nature trail of about 2 km leads around the mine. The trail passes the recreated lignite pit with the exhibition house and the old machines. There is also a rest area with tables and benches.
