The route connects the northern and southern parts of Flyndersø and the red and yellow hiking route. The route mostly follows the old postal road and therefore an old wheel track across Hjelm Hede.
The landscape here is characterized by the movements of ice 18,000 years ago. When the ice sheet that covered the entire area retreated northward, it left behind many isolated ice blocks – dead ice.
The holes in the landscape after the large dead ice blocks are called dead ice holes. Both Flyndersø and Stubbergård Sø were formed after a series of dead ice holes.
The route also features one of the most beautiful examples of dead ice holes in the heath - Stovdal. Here you get a very good impression of how the dead ice block lay in the sandy meltwater plain.
