Dronninglund Storskov consists of 4 different routes that intersect – a red, a yellow, and a blue route, as well as Bestig Bjerg's white route. The Sømose route is the red route. Sømosen is a high moor situated among the high hills in Jyske Ås in the southern part of Dronninglund Storskov. Sømosen carries an exciting history of past rural life. Sømosen is divided into around 40 peat plots that belonged to the local farms, each with its own parcel for peat cutting. Peat was excavated here until after World War I. The owners rented out the right to reside here for 2 kr. a year to gypsies and other traveling people from 1860 to around 1900. In the 1880s, there were about 40 families living in Sømosen. These were all market people, entertainers, gaffers, or musicians, who were attracted by the moor's desolate location and settled in primitive huts and earth holes, where they stayed during the winter. In the summer, they traveled around the country and performed. The last residents left Sømosen in 1954. In several places, you can see that there have been excavations in the slope, and various garden plants can still be seen.
