Around Øster Møllesø

The area around Øster Møllesø offers a town-close idyll with good opportunities for a lovely walk. The path around Øster Møllesø is about 1 km long, but the Eventyrsten also passes by the lake. There is parking on the southern part of the lake. At the parking area, you will find the restored Øster Mølle, which has belonged to Dronninglund Slot. From 1851 and well into our century, Øster Mølle ground grain and later supplied Dronninglund Slot with electricity. This ended in 1948 when the dam between the mill and the lake collapsed during a strong thaw. In 1990-91, the water flow was restored and the mill was renovated.

The area around Øster Møllesø is also home to trees that are not native to Vendsyssel, as well as three memorial oaks, including one for Her Majesty Queen Ingrid. The memorial oaks are direct descendants of the King Oak, Denmark's oldest tree. Mayors, authors, and many others have also planted trees along the path by Øster Møllesø. In Møllesøen, you can fish for several different species of fish, including carp, grass carp, and mirror carp.
