Northeast Path

This route is a section of the stretch of the North Sea Trail that runs through Hjørring Municipality. As part of the North Sea Trail, it is a part of the North Sea Trail and NAVE Nortrail project and winds along large parts of the North Sea where one will hike through historical traces.

On this part of the route, one will start along the beach and through the town of Løkken, which until the 1960s was an active fishing village, but at present only has a few active fishing boats left. However, there is now a new gathering and resting point, De Maritime Huse, where there is an opportunity to take a break and enjoy the dune landscape as well as the beach and the sound of the sea. Afterwards, the journey continues towards Furreby and then to Nørre Lyngby, where erosion along the west coast particularly begins. After that, one will begin to approach the more hilly dune landscape and the Rubjerg Knude Dune Plantation before reaching the sand and clay cliff affected by erosion, as well as the migrating dune and the blowing sand at Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse. From the lighthouse, one will pass through the town of Lønstrup, located in the valley along Lønstrup Stream and set in beautiful hilly landscape. Historically, Lønstrup is known for its significant importance to the cargo trade, especially to Norway and England. Further up the coast, one will arrive at Kærsgård beach and Liver River, where one can closely experience the beautiful inland dunes, the river that meanders through the landscape before it flows into the sea, and the dunes that rise up along the route. Afterwards, one will cross a bridge and walk along the coast until reaching Tornby Dune Plantation and Tornby beach.
