Round trip around Dyremose in Boserup Forest

The round tour starts at the parking lot Boserup Skov west. From here, you walk straight along the wide forest road to the area called Dyremosen by Boserupgaard Nature Center. Here, you turn left around the lake and take a round trip around Dyremose through the forest and back to the Nature Center and back towards the parking lot.

At the start of the route and the parking lot, there is a 300-meter-long balance beam made of natural materials called "Midgårdsormen," which you can follow along a different route into the forest.

The area with the lake close to Boserupgaard Nature Center is called Dyremose. Until a few years ago, Dyremose was a dense and lush forest, but now all the trees have been cut down to create a light-open meadow in the middle of the forest. They have also stopped draining the former bog to create an important habitat for the forest's animals – especially butterflies and insects. Dyremose now appears as a lake in the middle of the forest. The roe and fallow deer help prevent the bog from reverting back to forest.

The Nature Center is located in the old forest ranger's house, which was previously surrounded by agricultural land. The farming has now ceased, and Boserupgaard, managed by Roskilde municipality, is the center for nature guidance with visits from school classes, guided tours, etc. There has also been a tavern in the old buildings.

Many consider the biggest attraction in Boserup Skov to be when the anemones bloom in April. Boserup Skov has many anemones – both white, yellow, and blue. The Danish author Gustav Wied wrote in his novel Knagsted from 1902 that the anemones bloom earlier and more beautifully than anywhere else in Denmark. Gustav Wied lived in Roskilde from 1898 until his death in 1914, so he surely took many spring walks in Boserup Skov or quenched his thirst at Skovpavillonen, which was demolished in 1941.

In addition to anemones, there are also plenty of larkspur and other spring flowers such as lungwort, wood sorrel, and wild garlic. A good place to find blue anemones is on the slopes leading down to Roskilde Fjord.
