Several of the region's oldest farms have existed for more than 300 years, and on the small country road Vesterhedevej, you can experience some of them in their original appearance, where the building tradition called for the house to have a special grave door facing east, which from the fine living room went directly out into the open air, solely intended for taking the house's dead outside.
Just before completing the route, you pass by Tønder's botanical garden, which among other things houses examples of the extremely rare Chinese water fir, planted here in 1951 and today has grown into large beautiful trees.
