A few meters of elevation difference in the landscape has traditionally meant a huge difference when people settled in Tøndermarsken. Before draining the marsh, people settled on the elevations the landscape offered, and they built their farms on the artificial hills, known as værfter in the marsh language. Simply to keep buildings and toes dry during the winter storms. The village of Sæd is a good example of this and you will pass it on this route, which also leads down into the borderland. For nature enthusiasts, the rich bird life at Bremsbøl Lake is also worth a stop.
