The nature trail partially follows the route of the abandoned private railway Nibe-Hvalpsund. The State/Ministry of Environment acquired most of the old railway bed from Nibe to Havbro west of Aars in the early 1970s. This constitutes the actual nature trail.
From Aalborg, the safest way to reach Nibe is via the parish roads from Hasseris in the southern part of Aalborg, through Nørholm, finally reaching the bike path that runs along the bypass road west of Nibe. From here, you can directly access the nature trail on the southern outskirts of Nibe. The nature trail is paved with a lane for pedestrians/cyclists and a gravel path for horseback riders.
