Fløjdiget

Fløjdiget Vester Vedsted. If you come to Vester Vedsted, perhaps on your way along the West Coast Route or visiting shelters, you have here the opportunity, as the only place in Denmark, to cycle on top of a Fløjdige. The tour goes from the sea dike in the west to the Flyverstenen in Vester Vedsted. The path is laid on top of the Fløjdiget and is a trail paved with fine castle gravel. The route is just over 2 km long, and along the route, you can see both south and north from the top of the dike. As something quite special, the route also goes a small way through the forest.

Take the opportunity to take a closer look at the village of Vester Vedsted. There has been settlement here before Ribe was founded. Partly at Dankirke, which is located about 2 km east of Vester Vedsted, partly at Okholm, where the Wadden Sea Center is now located, and partly along the Fløjdiget. Also take a look inside the beautiful village church, which is situated high on a natural elevation. Or visit the Wadden Sea Center or the vineyard.

Flyverstenen is a memorial for 7 young men who lost their lives during World War II when their Lancaster bomber was shot down by the Germans over Vester Vedsted.

Once you have arrived in Vester Vedsted, you can choose to cycle further or you can take the routes back to the sea dike and see the landscape from another direction.

There is the possibility to travel both on foot and by bicycle on the path, and the tour is a family-friendly route. Even wheelchairs can travel on the dike.
