Houstrup Strand - Yellow Hiking Trail

The route is distributed with about half in each of the two plantations. The path of the route is very undulating, extending over both the dunes and the surrounding forest. The area is old seabed, where sand deposition has shaped the dunes over time. There is a chance to encounter the forest king, the "red deer," on the hiking trail. They are very shy animals, but the early risers have a better chance of catching a glimpse of them. Blåbjerg plantation began planting in 1878, while Nymindegab started planting in the mid-1890s, following the law on sand drift mitigation. The Blåbjerg-Nymindegab plantation covers approximately 3500ha, with half of the area covered in trees. The main tree species are Scots pine, mountain pine, Corsican pine, and French mountain pine. In several places on the land, grazing with horses has been conducted to keep the vegetation at an appropriate level.
