Ansager Canal Path

The Ansager Canal Path follows the former Ansager Canal to Karlsgårde Lake. The canal was constructed between 1941 and 1945 to provide water supply for energy production at the Karlsgårde Power Plant. Water was diverted from the Varde River, and in connection with the restoration of the Varde River in 2011, the Ansager Canal became unnecessary. Therefore, it was partially filled in and closed.

In 2016, the hiking trail of approximately 9.5 km was opened, which runs from Stemmeværksplads on Canalvej and continues south to Bredmosevej by Karlsgårde Lake. Along the way, there are picnic tables and information boards. There is also parking available at Hoddemarkvej and Vesterbækvej.

If you’re up for a longer hike, you can continue along the Coast to Coast Trail, which runs between Blåvand and Vejle Fjord. At Karlsgårde Lake, you can also visit Tambours Have. Here you will find plants from all over the world and a cafe to visit.
