Place around Karlsgårde Lake

Karlsgårde Lake was dammed at the beginning of the 20th century as a reservoir for the Karlsgårde Hydropower Plant, which produced electricity for large parts of Southwest Jutland.

Over time, this artificial lake has become a natural gem, where the closed Karlsgårde plant beautifully sits at one end as a technical cultural monument.

The route around the lake is 5.3 km long and alternates between grazed heath, dark coniferous forest, and open beech forest. The path crosses the water at two points where there are bridges over the inflow to the lake.

There are several opportunities to stop along the way, such as at the overnight area at the northeast end of the lake, which has toilets and a fire pit, as well as picnic tables.

Parking is available at the Karlsgårde plant at the western end of the lake and at Tambours Have in the east. There are year-round open toilets and water at both locations.

The playground at Tambours Have is open all year round, and there are good covered seating options.

The path is marked as a heart path and has a solid gravel surface, making it accessible for strollers and walkers.

Cycling or horseback riding on the path is not permitted.
