Benløse Heart Path

Benløse Forest is a young, urban forest and nature area that has come into being through a collaboration between Copenhagen Energy, the Benløse chain, Ringsted Municipality, and the Forest and Nature Agency. Benløse Forest was created through local initiative. The Benløse chain, which consists of a number of local associations, has been very engaged in the establishment of Benløse Forest. It is the Benløse chain that has been responsible for establishing Benløse City Forest. There is a great need in the outskirts of Copenhagen to secure clean drinking water. Benløse Forest is designated as a nature area to protect the groundwater. In the future, it will help ensure clean drinking water for the capital region. The area with the forest is currently divided into 2 smaller forests, Benløse City Forest from 1999 and the forest at Hjortemosegård from 2003. The plan is for Benløse Forest to become much larger than it is today. The Forest and Nature Agency is working to purchase land or properties in the area for groundwater protection and nature experiences for the local population. Experience Benløse Forest Benløse Forest mainly consists of beech, oak, and other broadleaf tree species. Coniferous trees have also been planted to create variation in the forest. A large part of the natural area around the forest consists of open areas such as meadows and wetlands. The intention is for the variation to make it an exciting area that is also a good habitat for wild animals. There is already a large population of roe deer. Benløse Forest gives you the opportunity to experience and use nature. The trails will guide you around the area. You can climb Kælkehøj, which offers a beautiful view over the area. In the Ice Age Forest, you can take a hike through 10,000 years from the last ice age in Denmark to today. Nature is ever-changing. The competitive relationships between species change as a result of climate change and human impact. You can experience how different tree and shrub species have dominated in different periods throughout time.
