The Memorial Mound

Around the memorial stone on the memorial mound, 32 different species of conifers were planted in 1937. Today, it is the douglas, noble fir, thuja, and larch that are dominant.

Valdemar's Road

Christian IV's private royal road from Roskilde to Haraldsted runs through Skjoldenæsholm Forest. Now we all must traverse the paved royal road. But in Chr. IV's time, the road was reserved for the king and the state power, as neither humans nor animals were allowed to travel on the road without the king's permission. Strict penalties were imposed on the peasants who ventured onto the road.

Forest on Arable Land

The forest along the west side of Valdemar's Road was planted on arable land in 1968 with oak/beech on the left and red fir/douglas on the right. At the same location, an old protected oak can be seen, and near the stack shed, the forest's largest noble firs are located.

“Laurentziuslund”

A protected four-winged farm from the early 1800s, formerly the residence of the local magistrate.

Gyldenløves Høj

Gyldenløves Høj (126 meters) is the highest point in Zealand. The mound is named after Frederick IV's half-brother Ulrik Frederick Gyldenløve, who owned Skjoldenæsholm around 1700. The small domed mound was artificially constructed to ensure it was Zealand's highest point.

A memorial stone has been raised for fallen freedom fighters who met here at night during World War II to receive arms drop-offs.
