Byliv and green oases
When the summer sun hits Ringsted, life moves out into the streets. On Saturdays, there are often many activities; small concerts, competitions, or exhibitions in the town's spaces.
If you are looking for a green oasis for a picnic or just to relax a bit, the options are also good in Ringsted. Just south of Sct. Bendts church lies Klosterhaven. As the name suggests, the area has a past under Ringsted Monastery as a kitchen garden. But now the monastery's walls have long fallen, and the area has become the town's central park, where people meet and settle down on the lawn.
The English park.
A little further northeast – between Anlægsvej and Teglovnsvej – near the swimming pool – lies Ringsted Lystanlæg. A park created by the people for the people. A group of citizens took the initiative at the end of the 1890s to establish a park of approximately 6 hectares. The park was, at its establishment in 1898, a stylish example of the interpretation of the classic English landscape garden.
The paths wind through the park to various experiences; the grove, the lake, the snail mound, etc. The passage of time and intensive use have left their mark on the park, where several of the original features are difficult to trace. But the park remains a peaceful haven with large trees and open grassy areas.
Torpet bog
During World War II, there was plenty of human activity in the bog, as turf was dug for fuel here. But now the bog is almost left to wildlife. Many migratory birds stop in the area, and during the summer months, small birds breed here.
The bathing lake
If you want a dip in Ringsted bathing lake, you should follow the country road Holbækvej 2 km north. Here lies the bathing lake with a small sandy beach and other facilities.
Haraldsted Langsø
Haraldsted Langsø lives up to its name; the lake is 6 km long but only between 0.3 and 0.6 km wide. The lake is part of the tunnel valley, which is a 30 km long geological system between Åmosen and Køge.
From Haraldsted Sandvej, the view over the lake and the surrounding landscape can be enjoyed. In the distance, the profile of Ringsted's distinctive buildings can be seen; Sct. Bendts church, the water tower, and the grain silos.
