Before 1561, the majority of the forest belonged to the Danish crown. On July 7, 1561, Frederik II donated the 10 farms in Allindelille to the University of Copenhagen. During the land consolidation in 1798, suitable areas were designated for permanent forest - a total of 57 ha. Of this, about 45 ha is covered with broadleaf forest, primarily beech. The rest consists of lakes, bogs, and open grasslands.
Allindelille Fredskov is home to a unique herb flora, and the forest is protected by a special conservation order. This conservation order means that it is only allowed to move on roads, paths, and trails, and that picking and digging up plants is prohibited!!
The Danish Nature Conservation Association (through the Danish Nature Fund) purchased the forest from the State in 2011. DN is also now responsible for the maintenance of the forest.
