The flora and fauna around the lake are allowed to develop freely. There are many beautiful plants in the area, several of which are quite rare: this includes the creeping wintergreen and the five-ribbed sedge. Other plants include cotton grass and the orchid, forest lipwort. Otherwise, much of the vegetation around the lake is dominated by bulrush and reed, typical thickets for a reed warbler and a sedge warbler. The kingfisher is also present in the area and can be seen most of the year. Additionally, the green-legged rail is a reliable breeding bird. In the lake, there are also great and small water salamanders.
