Præsteskoven (2.3 km)

A walk of 2.3 km. The trail in the forest is marked and there are information boards at the burial mounds. It starts from the parking lot centrally located in the village (by the church/opposite the sports field) – there is also a map board here. The priests received part of their salary as a yield from the forest, hence the name Præsteskoven. Today, the forest is owned by the Church Council. The path leading down to the forest from the bend is the old church path, which until the road was made in the early twentieth century, connected Vejerslev with Borre. The round trip in the forest passes two burial mounds. The eastern burial mound at the edge of the forest close to the cultivated field is the oldest. If you look closely, you can see it from the path. The burial mound dates back to the Neolithic period. The burial mound has not been excavated, but the stones that stick up may have been sides of a stone chamber. If it is the remains of a stone chamber, it could be a dolmen or a small passage grave from the so-called funnel beaker culture and would date from around 3,500 to 3,000 BC.
