Skjoldenæsholm

If you have seen the dogma film "Festen" by Thomas Vinterberg, you will recognize the main building of the estate Skjoldenæsholm. It is still possible to find traces of the original building in the 'Grevindefløjens' boulders and half-timbering. Today, the main building is a beautiful example of neoclassical architecture.

Dyrehaven

Along the path in the animal park, you can see the most common tree species of the forest: Beech, oak, ash, maple, bird cherry, sycamore, linden, alder, red spruce, larch, Douglas fir, noble fir, grand fir, thuja, and Nordic fir. Most of the species are found individually as large old specimens that have long since passed their optimal commercial value as sawmill timber. They have been allowed to remain standing to provide an experience for the forest's guests. At the same time, they provide shelter and food for woodpeckers, owls, hole pigeons, bats, insects, etc.

Valdemarsvejen

Christian IV's private royal road from Roskilde to Haraldsted runs through Skjoldenæsholm forest. Now we all must travel along the paved royal road. But in Chr. IV's time, the road was reserved for the king and state power, as neither people nor animals were allowed on the road without the king's permission. Strict punishments were given to the farmers who ventured onto the road.

Kongedamshuset

The southern part of the house is set up as a refreshment place. Here it is possible to buy beverages from a vending machine. On days when the sign by the road says “Open,” the kitchen is open. As it is also a private residence, please show consideration on days when the sign says “Closed.”

Forest on Crop Field

The forest along the west side of Valdemarsvejen was planted on a crop field in 1968 with oak/beech to the left and red spruce/Douglas to the right. In the same place, you can see an old protected oak, and by the stack shed, you can see the largest noble firs in the forest.

“New Alley”

The “New Alley” was planted in 1985. It is now beginning to take shape and fill the landscape. The alley consists of the tree species linden (Tilia cordata).

Along the path to the “New Alley,” some very large beautiful beech trees have been preserved. The trees are about 200 years old. At the foot of the hill stand two large old oaks that are probably even older.
